Kitsbölen Kotitila

Pure flavours from the Archipelago Sea – Finnish strawberries and peas cultivated responsibly for generations.

A seaside farm in Sauvo

In the seaside village of Sauvo in Southwest Finland, the fields of the Kitsböle family farm have been cultivated since the 1800s.

At the beginning of the new millennium, responsibility for the family farm passed to Erno Mikkola. Today, in the fresh environment of the Archipelago Sea, peas, greenhouse strawberries and grains are grown.

The farm is cultivated responsibly under the IP certification, with no compromise on professionalism. The farm is run by Erno and his wife Heli.

In addition to Erno and Heli, the farm employs four permanent workers and around 120 seasonal employees.

The focus is on the future, with purity, freshness and ecological values as the guiding goals. Inspiration is drawn from around the world, leading to the testing and adoption of new cultivation, harvesting and development methods.

At Kitsböle, inspiration comes from testing new ideas, while the farm’s long history in traditional agriculture forms the foundation of all operations.

High-quality and responsible farming

We collaborate with, among others, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences and EOD Oy to improve the quality of irrigation water for strawberries through nano-oxygen technology.

Our farm produces high-quality Finnish greenhouse strawberries and peas for consumers.

We use the IP Quality System Sigill vegetables + working conditions combination, which ensures production that meets the required standards in all areas. The IP Sigill certification is intended for primary production companies whose clients require impartial, third-party-certified operations. Sigill-level certification focuses on verifying product safety and environmental responsibility.

Biological control products from Biotus are used for strawberries. These biological plant protection agents are completely residue-free and require no withholding period. Maintenance work and harvesting can be carried out simultaneously, and the use of biological control poses no risk to employees either.
